Businessman Edward Chen Chak-man, father of fallen pop idol Edison Chen Koon-hei, is set to declare bankruptcy in coming days, his daughter confirmed yesterday.
Actress Tricia Chen Kin-fei, elder sister of Edison Chen, said the decision to file for bankruptcy was reached after family discussions. Her father, who had been led into trouble by the global downturn, had asked her to make the decision public.
He would announce the details himself in a few days.
The actress said the bankruptcy would not affect her: 'I haven't asked for money from my father since I graduated from university. And I am very frugal now. But I will work hard to improve myself in the future.'
Chen said her family had been going through wave after wave of challenges lately, referring to warning letters attached to cartridges that had been sent to her brother - centre of the scandal in which pictures of him having sex with some of the city's female stars circulated on the internet.
Chen Chak-man, a businessman also active in local showbiz with connections to Jackie Chan and entertainment tycoon Albert Yeung Sau-sing, had been plagued by financial problems in recent years.
