What is it?
JaneClare is a Hong Kong-based skincare range that uses traditional Chinese medicinal herbs and says it prides itself on being ethical and effective.
Who is behind it?
Emeritus dermatology professor of the University of Oregon, Chan Sai-chung, who holds two doctorate degrees from Yale University: an MD and a PhD in environmental toxicity. The company says Chan has led research teams for some of the world's best-known brands of skincare, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. He was also appointed as the science adviser to the White House during the Clinton administration. Originally from Hong Kong, Chan has a strong belief in a holistic approach to health and beauty, JaneClare says.
What's so good about the brand?
'The ... products are herbal-based and tested for efficacy on Asian skin [but they] also work well on Caucasian skin,' the company says. Chan believes if people want to have 'sustainable beauty', they have to work from the inside out. The company says this can be achieved by supplying wholesome nutrients to the skin through 'natural vehicles'. They say their 'dual-layer ... airless bottle' retains the product's potency. Last year the Hong Kong Productivity Council performed tests on well-known skincare brands and JaneClare says its Blueberry Revital Firming Mask was found to contain the highest amount of antioxidants, known as anti-ageing ingredients.
