An exhibition as much about seeing art as being seen
The social buzz this past weekend was one of fashion's biggest brands bringing some of the art world's biggest brands to Hong Kong. The 'Louis Vuitton: A Passion For Creation' exhibition opened on Thursday with a VIP preview, which was as much about seeing art as being seen. It's hard to say what the guests were more excited by: the chance to meet such contemporary artists as Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince, or to rub elbows with LVMH boss Bernard Arnault and designer extraordinaire Marc Jacobs.
Of course, the big names mostly exited quickly for a private dinner at Felix. Of the art world stars, Murakami was by far the most accessible, hamming it up near his display and posing for pictures with anyone and everyone. The Japanese artist even hosted a book launch and autograph session at LV's Canton Road store on Friday morning.
The other star attraction was the actress Maggie Cheung Man-yuk (pictured with boyfriend Ole Scheeren). She confirmed that her role in Quentin Tarantino's new movie Inglourious Basterds was edited out entirely. Since she obviously didn't need to be in Cannes, she decided to fly back to Hong Kong and glammed up the art opening with architect Scheeren, who designed the CCTV Tower in Beijing.
