It was just a few months ago, in February, that the grand  finale of the 2008 Yamaha Asian Beat Band Competition was held in Hong Kong, with local quartet Summer Junkiez  doing us proud - singer Anthony Barry  won the best vocal award.  
Well, it's time to gear up for next year's contest. Once again, Tom Lee Music will be in charge of the local leg, and  it's looking for amateur bands of all varieties  to showcase their stuff live. 
The preliminary heats will take place on August 4 and 5 at the Tom Lee Academy Hall in MegaBox.  
The regional finals this year will be held in Yokohama, Japan.
 Budding local musicians  should submit an entry form along with their original song for performance on a  compact disc, with printed lyrics. Forms and details are at TomLeeMusic.com, or call 2737 7603. 
The deadline for entries is July 21.
