Chance for everyone to march to the beat of a different drum
They say we all march to the beat of a different drum, but tomorrow night at the University of Hong Kong's Loke Yew Hall, you can shake it to all kinds of different rhythms at a unique cross-cultural percussion concert. Best of all, the event is free.
Part of the university's Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities, the Cross-Rhythms Concert features drumming styles from Korea, Africa, Indonesia and hybrid variations of percussive music. The musicians include gamelan drummer Alit I Gusti Adi Putra from Bali, a Korean Samulnori group called Molgae, ethnomusicologist Manolete Mora, Ghanaian master drummer Gideon Alorwoyie (pictured) and the principal percussionist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for 19 years, Lung Heung-wing.
The performance at the Pok Fu Lam campus begins at 7.30pm. For details, call 2859 2606.
