Sexy classical crossover group from England set to make a splash in Asia
Is Escala the new Bond? It would seem to be the case: a string quartet with four hot-looking girls in sexy clothes playing electro-pop-classical crossover music to the masses. The English group first gained prominence on last season's Britain's Got Talent TV programme and now they're a Sony/BMG act coming to Asia to make it big here. The quartet, signed by Simon Cowell to his Syco Entertainment, is bringing their debut CD to town next Monday to Wednesday for their first local promotional appearance.
An invitation-only launch has been arranged for Tuesday night at the Mira Hotel ballroom, but the gals will also make a public appearance on Wednesday at the adjacent Miramar shopping centre at 6.30pm. However, this weekend they'll be appearing on an even bigger stage as the opening act for Wang Lee-hom's concert in Beijing.
Given Hong Kong's taste for style-before-substance-acts like Vanessa Mae and Maksim, Escala should be headlining here soon enough.
