Canto-pop stars don't die, they live on through fan clubs and their exhibitions. To mark the 30th anniversary of the late singer Danny Chan Pak-keung's start in show business, his fan club is presenting an exhibition on the idol (left), one of the most popular Hong Kong singers of the 1980s.

Featuring old photos, personal items, news and magazine clippings, and records from the baby-faced singer-songwriter's career, this is a great chance for the new generation to discover Chan's appealing ballads, including his classic hit What One Wants in Life, written and sung for a 1989 television series called Looking Back In Anger, which starred a young actress named Carina Lau Ka-ling.

Chan announced his retirement in 1991. It was speculated that the singer was suffering from alcoholism and depression as his career started to flounder.

On May 18, 1992, he was found unconscious from a suspected drug overdose. After being in a coma for 17 months, he died in 1993 at the age of 35.

To remember (or introduce yourself to) Danny Chan, his career exhibition continues until Thursday at the Moon Gallery, 111 Queen's Road West, Sheung Wan. Admission is free.
