It's a pampered, extravagant dog's life in Hong Kong

It's a dog's life for some mutts in Hong Kong, while other pooches get indulged with excess and extravagance. A bit of that lavishness was evident on Sunday afternoon at the Hong Kong Canine Working and Agility Club in Sheung Shui. More than 100 owners and their pets gathered to create a giant montage of paw and hand prints, 3.1 metres by 9.3 metres, which was then submitted to Guinness World Records for the world's largest painting with dog paws and human hand prints.

However, the real reason for the bow wow pow wow was to introduce some new pet products from Kiehl's. The skincare label's For Your Dog line includes a shampoo, conditioning rinse and a Spray-N-Play cleansing spritz (part of the proceeds from now until November 30 will go to the Veterinary Services Society). For those who like to pamper their pooch, they hardly even qualify as conspicuous canine consumption.

Take Regal Hotels heir and executive director Poman Lo Po-man (above) for example. Joining other prominent dog-lovers like actress Athena Chu Yan, radio host Kitty Yuen Siu-yee and singer Miki Yeung Oi-gan, she arrived with her eight spoiled poodles, looked after by three Filipino maids and two security guards.

'I'm actually thinking of buying each of them insurance, but each policy costs more than HK$2,000,' Lo said. 'However, if I don't buy it and my doggies do fall sick, the medical costs will be much higher.' We highly doubt the veterinary bill is really cause for concern.
