Curious about Cantonese opera but can't understand the stories? Well, here's your chance to see the traditional Chinese art form, which the United Nations has recognised as a non-commercial cultural heritage, in English. The Wah Yan Dramatic Society is staging a show called A Lizard Is No Dragon on Thursday and Friday at the APA Drama Theatre.

Not only have all the words been translated into English, the amateur presentation includes local stars, with most coming from the business and political arena. Among the guest performers are Civic Party lawmaker Alan Leong Kah-kit, Hospital Authority chairman Anthony Wu Ting-yuk, prominent socialite Ivy Wu Kwok Sau-ping (centre, wife of Hopewell Holdings' Gordon Wu) and Hong Kong Jockey Club chairman John Chan Cho-chak (right).

The two shows not only aim to present opera to the non-Chinese-speaking community, but to raise a bit of money for Wah Yan College's school development project. Prices range from HK$300 to HK$2,000. Contact 2572 2251.
