The Kee Club co-owner and her husband, Christian Rhomberg, are keen Buddhists, and she's decided to sell off a stash of her collection of Buddhist statues. 'We connected to Buddhism about 15 years ago and Maria used to be in the antique business,' Christian said at a preview cocktail party on Monday.

'Oh, it was more than 15 years,' Maria corrected, adding: 'This collection of works isn't particularly old and the artists are not well known, but there's a lot of craftsmanship and heart that is very impressive. If we wanted to, we could pass them for much older works because of the quality.

'But they're not expensive and there's no reason for some artworks to be so expensive. For me now, I look at them, appreciate their preciousness, but I am ready to give them up. In fact, I've given up a lot of my jewellery already.'

The proceeds will go to a Tibetan monastery charity called the Fu Rui Foundation, which is holding a gathering at the Kee Club later this week.

Obviously, Rhomberg has a genuine interest in the culture. That's also why she doesn't believe in trophy displays, like the typical Buddha head decorations in so many stylish flats.
