Believing a day at the beach can make a world of difference, companies across Hong Kong's diverse corporate landscape came together to sponsor the International Coastal Cleanup Challenge, the largest single-day volunteer event of its kind to clean up the city's beaches.
Staff from international global finance house Nomura, the lead sponsor, joined people from other companies and schools and thousands of individuals in the effort.
'Nomura is delighted to be the lead sponsor of the International Coastal Cleanup Challenge,' said Minoru Shinohara, Nomura's Asia ex-Japan regional chief executive. 'Protecting the environment has been a key component of Nomura's corporate social responsibility effort and we constantly organise green initiatives around the globe to encourage the reduction, reuse and recycling of resources. By participating in the International Coastal Cleanup Challenge, Nomura and its employees will further help to make a difference for the environment. We hope all participants will join us in creating a sustainable future.'
He said Nomura had always been committed to giving back to the society through its corporate social responsibility effort, which is centred on three key areas: environment, education and employees.
'We think the beach cleanup has made a significant contribution to the society of Hong Kong by educating and engaging thousands of citizens,' Shinohara said.
'We are pleased to learn that the event has increased in scale every year with record number of participants this year, and we are honoured to be the lead sponsor to support such an important initiative.'
