J-pop diva tucks into wonton soup as she marks 10 years in the music industry
One of Japan's top soul-pop divas, Mai Kuraki (pictured), played on Saturday night at Polytechnic University. She arrived a couple of days earlier, allowing her to appear at a press conference for her only product sponsor, cosmetic line Esprique Precious (operated by parent company Kose), at the Watermark restaurant on Thursday afternoon. This year also marks Kuraki's 10th in her music career, and to help commemorate the occasion the make-up label gave her two special gifts, a set of crystal-encrusted eye-shadow pallets and a piece of artwork with her face embroidered on it.
'I am very focused on my career as a singer,' Kuraki said, which is why she isn't one of those idol vocalists whose music is secondary to the music videos and commercial sponsorship. While in Hong Kong, the J-pop diva plans to take advantage of the culinary opportunities. 'I have come ... many times before and one food that I remember the most is the wonton soup noodles. I particularly like the noodles. It's very yummy.'
