Would the real Lin Chi-ling please step forward
In show business, everyone is inevitably compared to everyone else. So perhaps there was some awkwardness last Friday when former Miss Hong Kong contestant Carrie Lam Lei (right) - dubbed the local Lin Chi-ling - came face to face with the real one from Taiwan. Lin (left) was in town promoting a new Longines watch collection called the PrimaLuna at a very Arabian Nights party at The Mira hotel's Whisk restaurant, complete with belly dancers, tarot card readings and free henna tattoos. Lam, as a timepiece model, just happened to be placed next to her doppelganger. Both had a similar hairstyle and floor-length evening gown and both tried not to sound perturbed by the comparison.
'I don't mind it,' Lin said. 'Actually I am more worried about her career. It's a burden for a young girl like her to be compared. Everyone is unique. If she is always referred to with someone else's name, people will easily forget who she is. I don't think it helps her in the long run.'
For her part, Lam suggested she was just honoured to be considered in the company of the sexy star with the girlish voice. 'Of course, it's flattering for people to say so but I don't think I look like Lin. Indeed, I hope my own characteristics can stand out more. I don't want to be a copy cat.'
Can you tell the difference?
