TDC grilling turns into religious experience
Lai See is very concerned that a cult is forming in the Legislative Council.
At its panel meeting on commerce and industry this week, a small army of mystery worshippers came out to testify about the wondrous works that the Trade Development Council has done in their lives.
The meeting was originally set up to look into complaints that the global marketing arm for Hong Kong's small and medium-sized enterprises has failed in its duty. Critics claimed that the TDC had manipulated venue-space-related figures for its own gain and encouraged unprofessional practices.
But the grilling session somehow turned into an impromptu congregation, with various local businesses singing the praises of the TDC.
A wine industry representative commended the quasi-government body for supporting the wine sector when no one else did years ago and for developing the city into a regional wine hub. Lai See wonders if this chap had had a few tipples at lunch.
