Arguably the most successful local hip hop act after LMF, Fama will be the first home-grown rappers to play the Hong Kong Coliseum next month. Adopting the handles 6-Wing (left) and C-Kwan (right) respectively, school friends Luk Wing-kun and Cheng Sze-kwan formed Fama in 2000 and were active in the underground music scene before being signed to the CMD entertainment company founded by actor Edison Chen Koon-hei and DJ Tommy, aka Cheung Chun-wai.
Fama's rap is more lighthearted compared to LMF, and filled with humorous lyrics. The pair began to receive mainstream attention when their song 456Wing became a radio and internet hit in 2006, and they established their name with the album, Music U Spend I Collect, the following year.
Why is your show named Down To Earth?
C-Kwan: We think that's the right attitude to live our life. There should be a change in our society. We shouldn't worship money and material things. We need to go back to basics.
Most of the older generation have been chasing wealth and materials. But many people of our generation or younger don't think that way any more. We are looking for inner satisfaction and are comparatively down to earth. The simple life is good. We'd rather be happy than pursue a material life. We'll address this in our show.
6-Wing: The poster for our concert features one of us as a Stone-Age man, another as an astronaut. The astronaut, who represents technology and the material world, returns to earth to live a simple life.
