Hotpot menu highlights how words get lost in translation

Who would have guessed that the president of the legislature, Tsang Yok-sing, could be a standup comedian?

Even though he is caught in the middle of a political firestorm over whether he will quit his presidency in order to vote for the government's constitutional reform package, the scholarly politician still keeps his cool and his sense of humour.

Tsang has a video clip on his Facebook page in which he talks about the intricate problems associated with Chinese to English translation.

He cites a hilarious example of how a local hotpot restaurant has got the translation wrong for some of its hotpot delicacies.

On its menu, pig's liver is translated into 'pig run', and handmade cuttlefish balls have oddly become 'hand-fighting Mexican fish'.
