Fewer people are working as casual employees - those hired on a day-to-day basis or for fewer than 60 days. There were 66,200 last year, a drop from 69,100 in 2005 and 80,700 in 2002. Census and Statistics Department data reveals about two-thirds worked in construction. About one in four casual employees earned less than HK$300 a day; the median was HK$400.
