Jeffrey Chan
When Jeffrey Chan began his career in finance more than 20 years ago, he never imagined his skills would involve driving the globalisation of operations in so many different countries.
As finance director of global private label and global design at Triumph International, Chan works to align operations in different countries involving the design, manufacturing and sales of lingerie and swimwear.
'The financial role has evolved into a strategic role where we need to develop strategic plans, analyse investments, examine where to put resources and how to use them more efficiently,' Chan says.
He says it also helps to have a thorough understanding of the manufacturing, design and retail processes.
'I enjoy looking at the design details and the manufacturing and retail processes so that I can function not only as finance director but also as a business partner within the group. This way, we are able to look at the business strategically and ensure decisions create synergy for moving the business forward,' says Chan, who has also spearheaded investment and joint ventures on the mainland with Hutchison and Shell.
Chan says his CPA Australia qualification and experience go beyond the numbers because it also focuses on analysis, judgment and decision-making. These skills have helped when setting up ventures and offices, and assisting young financial professionals with their careers.
