Sheung Wan MTR station to close for three days for work on new line
Sheung Wan MTR station will close for three days in August.
The MTR Corporation said yesterday the move was necessary to allow for work on the tracks ahead of the opening of the West Island Line, which is scheduled for 2014.
The work will affect services at both Sheung Wan and Central stations, meaning west-bound passengers on the Island Line will have to get off at Admiralty and take the Tsuen Wan Line to Central.
MTR head of operations Choi Tak-tsan said the project involved moving the tracks to connect the West Island Line with the Island Line.
Workers will also install new communications systems and overhead lines. It will take about 54 hours.
'The work will be conducted on a weekend in the summer when there are fewer people going to work and schools,' he said.
Work will start at 11.30pm on August 5 and services will resume on August 8. Sheung Wan station is now the terminus for the Island Line.
