Canto-pop singer-songwriter Louis Cheung Kai-chung started out at the age of four as a child actor with roles in television dramas and commercials. He went on to study drama at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. After graduation, he released his debut record, To Be or Not To Be, in 2005. He has also written music for singers such as Eason Chan Yik-shun and Denise Ho Wan-sze.
In 2007, he married fellow singer Kay Tse On-kei and their first child was born that year. He won the best composer award and singer-songwriter silver award at Commercial Radio's Ultimate Song Chart Awards in 2008. The 31-year-old recently launched a two-year project, entitled 2013 Louis Cheung, assuming the role of a man from the future.
What is 2013 Louis Cheung all about?
For people who believe the world will end in 2012, 2013 is a new beginning. I'm a person returning from 2013, bringing back messages and values from the future through my music, writing, videos and life during these few years. I'll be living my life with an attitude that people in the future will have.
From the 2013 point of view, people today are living like slaves and don't realise it. Our world may appear very advanced, but our lives don't seem to be moving forward. We still have much to worry about. That's no different from the life of primitive man.
So 2013 is a more advanced world. The mindset and mentality among people will be more open and free. Through this two-year project, I hope to inspire others to spend more time observing and thinking about their lives, and to see things from a wider perspective.
