The grandson of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has arrived in Bosnia to study at his new college, after he was denied a visa to study at a Hong Kong international school.
Kim Han-sol, 16, landed on Wednesday, the United World College in Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, confirmed yesterday.
'He's here,' said Meri Musa, spokesman for the college, who declined to say more about the boy's situation.
While college officials insist there has been and will be no special treatment for the teenager, Kim Han-sol's relationship to the dictator has caused the young man difficulties. Han-sol's father is Kim Jong-il's exiled eldest son Kim Jong-nam, who reportedly fell out of favour with his father after he was caught trying to enter Japan with his family on a fake Dominican passport. He said he wanted to visit Tokyo's Disneyland.
While two other North Koreans are studying at the University of Hong Kong, Han-sol was repeatedly denied a visa by the Immigration Department.
'After the third rejection, I thought it would be a better use of time to ask the principals of the other schools if they would take him,' said Stephen Codrington, former principal of Li Po Chun United World College, where Han-sol was originally set to enrol.
