Hong Kong shares were 0.44 per cent lower by the break on Thursday with dealers consolidating after recent gains and as they ease up ahead of a long break for the Lunar New Year holiday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index eased 101.90 points to 23,155.03 on turnover of HK$40.65 billion (US$5.23 billion).
