Wooden squatter fires were not uncommon here in the past. Hong Kong still has not learned the lesson to reduce such wooden squatter huts. Fortunately there were no casualties this time, but what about next time? The government must resettle those people living on the stilt houses ashore to prevent further fires.

If we really want to preserve the stilt houses as a tourist attraction, there must be better fire precautions and protection measures. People living there should also observe safety rules and regulations so that they can continue to stay there happily and peacefully.

A relief that no lives were lost and everyone is safe.

Hongkongers love the rubber duck but don't seem to care too much about the pink dolphins that will be lost with the new airport runway.
