I live in Guangzhou and as far as I know condoms as well as the pill are easily accessible over the counter. I believe that babies are abandoned because the mother is single and her chance of meeting someone nice and having a child with this man are over because she's already had a child (one child rule).

In a Dutch newspaper it says all babies were sick. It looks like China has a baby disposable culture. Is the baby a girl and is she sick? Then dump her in the baby hatch. If morality is gone, then the baby is not seen as a human.

How come they could abandon their babies? If they don't want them, they should not be pregnant or simply undergo an abortion early.

It was such a good step in the right direction too. They really need proper sex education in China and quality birth control.

Not punishing people for abandoning their newborns equals no consequences.
