Can Singapore teach Hong Kong how to get priority seats on the MTR?
Having just spent two weeks on holiday with my elderly mother in both Singapore and Hong Kong, I have some observations to make on etiquette in both locations.
In Singapore, the MRT priority seats are the first ones on either side of the doors; however, on the MTR in Hong Kong, priority seats are harder to come by.
In Singapore, the MRT has a #StandUpStacey campaign to give priority seats to the needy and this was observed without fail.
However, in Hong Kong this is not so: users of the MTR stick their faces into their phones, or are so engrossed in whatever they are listening to on their headphones, that they won’t give up their seats.

And this is not exclusive to mainland visitors, as locals are equally ignorant. Maybe the Hong Kong MTR needs to come up with its own campaign to make it easier for those in need to get – or be offered – a seat.
