Letters | MTR can ‘improve for us’ by maintaining its escalators more proactively
Last week, I noticed that one of the escalators at Tsim Sha Tsui station had been closed off by hoardings emblazoned with the slogan “Improving for You”. I wonder what the improvement is. Instead, MTR should be improving their maintenance plan. About a year ago, one of the escalators was similarly out of service and upon inquiring, I was informed that the company had to wait several months for the required parts to be delivered.
I suggest MTR’s maintenance department adopt a more proactive maintenance strategy, involving making sure adequate spare parts are available and can be delivered quickly to minimise or, better still, avoid escalators in one of Hong Kong’s busiest stations being out of service. From the announcements in the station, it appears that passengers will have to endure at least another month of congestion and the higher risk of danger in the event of an incident requiring evacuation from the platform.
