LettersDisney’s latest price hike could put theme park out of reach for many Hong Kong families
- The latest price hike has made Hong Kong Disneyland the most expensive theme park in Asia. It should introduce special rates for less-privileged local families and students
There is no denying that these prices may be out of reach for many local families. Disneyland is a place for the amusement of children. Parents who do not want to disappoint their children will strive to buy them a day or two of Disney fun despite the high rates. For a family of four, they would need to fork out more than HK$2,200 for a day out in Disneyland. And that is just for the entry tickets, without factoring in other incidental expenses, such as food and Disney merchandise, inside the costly theme park.
Also, even more expensive tickets may deprive the less-privileged children of a chance to enjoy Disney like their peers, making the difference between them even more stark. In order to provide a better environment for children’s growth, Hong Kong Disneyland should go beyond its two-month grace period and introduce special rates for Hong Kong families and students.
