I would like complain about my experience with the MTR’s handling of a request for an extension of validity of the City Saver pass due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

I bought an MTR City Saver pass in early January for travel to and from work and used it for the first time on January 7, thinking that I should be able to use it within 40 days of the first trip, although there were a few public holidays around the Lunar New Year when I didn’t have to work.

Unfortunately, with the outbreak of Covid-19, and in support of the government’s initiative to control the outbreak, my company asked me to work from home, and therefore I did not need to use the MTR City Saver to commute to work on weekdays.

On Sunday, February 16, when I tried to use it for a journey to take part in social activities, I found that the pass had expired. Therefore, I submitted a request for extension of validity, thinking that it should be granted, as this was the case last year when there were a lot of MTR service disruptions due to protests.

To my disappointment, on February 20, I received an email from the MTR stating that, based on the conditions of use, the pass’ validity could not be extended.
