In response to Michael Chugani’s “Why Trump is a better election bet than Biden” (April 17), is Mr Chugani trying to make a case for why Trump will make a better president or just doling out advice for gamblers?
Chugani says he supports Trump’s “America first” policy and asks why the United States should contribute to outfits often critical of it. I take issue with this for two reasons. One, criticism is important. This is how we continue to learn and better ourselves. America is a country with freedom of speech and the belief that we are better for it. Second, contributing to global organisations such as the World Health Organisation and Nato is how the US demonstrates leadership and builds global alliances.

Chugani seems to admire Trump because he subjects himself to daily pummelling and gives as good as he gets. Trump is using the daily press briefings as a substitute for his election rallies because he thrives on the attention.

In the briefings, Trump undercuts the scientists, picks fights with local officials and reporters, and asks the public to do something which he proudly says he has no intention of doing. Is this leadership?
And finally, Chugani credits Trump with rallying the states. Really? Please ask the governors and look at the polls.
