Letters | Hong Kong independence supporters only want to destroy our beloved city

Acts of brutality, the chanting of “liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times” and the playing of the Hong Kong independence song are not consistent with embracing the Basic Law. Neither are they compatible with the fundamental requirements of being patriotic.

A year of anti-government protests in Hong Kong
Now that the new national security law for Hong Kong is in place, hopefully it can do a great job safeguarding our city and thwarting those harbouring the ill intention of tearing our beloved hometown apart.
The mutual destruction camp is trying to use the mantra of liberating Hong Kong to challenge China’s national sovereignty and use it as a political bargaining chip. The national security law is trying fend it off. The playing of pro-independence songs should be promptly penalised.
