However, during the coronavirus pandemic, many Hongkongers – be it ordinary citizens, medical experts advising the government or the business sector – have expressed their unhappiness with the government’s performance. The government seems to have been less than effective in this situation, especially in the face of the third wave of Covid-19.
Investigations in university laboratories have revealed that strains of the virus in several local cases were “highly identical” to those of imported cases. Experts suspect airline and shipping crews exempted from quarantine could have been the sources of infection. The chief executive showed her humanistic spirit to these crews, but what about the lives and livelihoods of us Hongkongers?

Hong Kong reverses all-day restaurant ban, as city reports record high 149 Covid-19 cases
The ridiculous decision to ban dine-in services in restaurants lasted just 48 hours. This shows an absolute lack of common sense and grasp of reality (“What dine-in ban U-turn says about Carrie Lam’s team”, August 3). It’s hard to stomach that our government officials are paid so highly to make such decisions.
We understand the difficulties in confronting the outbreak, but the authorities should make decisions with knowledge as well as empathy. Otherwise, we are not on the same road and will “never connect”.
