I refer to the letter, “Shocking to see Hong Kong police tackle down 12-year-old” (September 9).

A video clip circulating on the internet shows what happened. From the clip, it is clear the girl was stopped by the police for questioning at the scene of disturbance in Kowloon, and she tried to run away. A nearby police officer then tackled her and pinned her to the ground.

The use of force was surely triggered by the escaping girl rather than the police. In that moment, stopping and then properly controlling her were the first priorities, instead of thinking about her age. Did she suffer serious injuries such as a fracture? Her lack of serious injuries says it all.
