Letters
It was shocking to learn of a suspected murder-suicide case at Lotus House in the So Uk housing estate, where a woman and her two small children were found unconscious and later declared dead (“Hong Kong mum, two children die in suspected murder-suicide”, November 8).
Everyone has to face difficulties and stress at some time or other in their lives. While there is life, though, there is hope. We need to muster up lots of courage when facing difficult situations. And problems can often be solved when someone nearby offers prompt, appropriate assistance.

By showing concern and care to someone in need and being a good listener, everyone can give a helping hand to those who are suffering. This tragedy raises an alarm to society that our community may be lacking in mutual support, concern and caring, the essential elements for leading a peaceful life.

I was a resident for decades in Lotus House. Even though my family and I have since moved out, I still feel a sense of belonging to the housing estate in Cheung Sha Wan. To help the surviving father who is going through this hardship, his relatives, friends and neighbours should give him lots of support. Also, I suggest that a charity fund be set up by the housing estate and relevant social welfare sector to offer financial support to next of kin.

I would like to offer the family of the deceased my deepest and most sincere condolences; may the souls of the deceased rest in peace.
