I have considerable sympathy for your correspondent Roy Wong (“Officials need to get out more to see virus reality”, December 15) who is an avid swimmer and needs a morning swim before starting his day.

He has been frustrated by the meticulous sealing off of his favourite beach. I have always wondered why travelling in jam-packed trains, buses and minibuses, and shopping in crowded supermarkets are allowed, while swimming in the open air is not.

I am not exactly a good swimmer but a regular tennis player. A tennis court is a rather large area occupied by a maximum of four players in the open air. It always baffles me why playing tennis is less safe than the above-mentioned activities in confined areas.

I am not at all a selfish citizen arguing for my favourite sport. I am just humbly demanding for the prevalence of at least some kindergarten logic from our decision-makers in government.
