Letters | Hong Kong ‘sports bubble’ plan a slap in the face for residents stranded abroad
- Non-residents may be able to enter when Hongkongers have long been waiting to return
1-MIN READ1-MIN

I am horrified to hear that the Hong Kong government and the Home Affairs Bureau are fully backing the idea of a football tournament that would allow some 300 overseas players and officials to enter Hong Kong without having to undergo the mandatory three-week quarantine in a hotel or isolation facility (“Hong Kong Football Association prepares ‘sports bubble’ protocols”, February 20).
Why should non-residents be allowed to do this when our own residents cannot? There are many residents waiting to return home to Hong Kong but cannot, as there is a flight ban, or they either cannot afford the quarantine or do not wish to be confined for such a long period. It is wrong to discriminate against our own residents.
This makes no sense to me. I hope the government has the sense to step back from this idea and pull its support.
