Letters | Coronavirus in India: ban festivals, push vaccines on war footing
- Festivals lead to large gatherings and neglect of Covid-19 protocols. A ban would be wise
- Israel, Australia and New Zealand have shown how to be proactive on vaccinations and quarantine

India should ban all public celebrations for about a year. Festivals lead to large gatherings and neglect of Covid-19 protocols. So, it would be wise to ban all such gatherings until the disease is controlled.
The vaccination programme in India should have been carried out on a war footing, in the villages and slums. Private hospitals and consumer product companies should have been roped in.
The UAE model of taking vaccines to the people through mobile vans is exemplary. Vaccinations in countries like India and Brazil, both reeling under the coronavirus pressures, should be undertaken by mobile vans and health workers on motorcycles. Vaccinations should commence at railway stations, airports, universities, shopping malls, temples, mosques, and so on.
