I am writing in response to your report, “Baccalaureate students want to skip exams” (April 27). I feel for those affected.

No one wanted this pandemic to happen, obviously, and for some students it is just unsafe and not sensible to attend exams under these circumstances. However, guaranteeing a grade not worse than a student’s predicted grades is a bit too unfair to those students attending the exams.
This “dual route” could also enable some students to abuse this approach if their predicted grades are satisfactory. Again, this is unfair to those attending the exam.
The pandemic has been around for more than a year, and it is expected that some alternative ways of taking exams are provided for those who cannot sit for them. For instance, an online exam could be used.
The English Schools Foundation should have figured it out by now but chose to implement this unfair measure, which is a bit disappointing. I hope this situation will be resolved in a better way.
