In saying that he does “respect people with different sexual orientation. Whatever you do in your room, it’s your own business. But if you do it in public, it’s disgraceful”, lawmaker Junius Ho Kwan-yiu would seem to believe the Gay Games is a massive orgy (“Regina Ip backs Hong Kong Gay Games, but others say it’s ‘disgraceful’”, June 9).

Being gay does not mean being promiscuous. There is more to us than sex.
The Gay Games bid for Hong Kong has failed to make inroads with the Home Affairs Bureau and Leisure and Cultural Services Department in securing venues. That is an error of planning and one they hope can be resolved.
To have a government representative label the event as “dirty money” is wholly unacceptable, and Ho should be forced to apologise.
Hong Kong, which is ostensibly “Asia’s world city”, needs to embrace diversity. Our chief executive should be welcoming of any plans to boost morale and economic opportunities for Hong Kong, regardless of whether they are pink dollars or pink renminbi.
