Letters | Why China will continue to go its own way: that’s the road to national rejuvenation
- By engaging in continuous reform and opening up, China has achieved a significant, if not the biggest, economic miracle in four decades
- With the steadfast backing of the central government, Hong Kong will continue to thrive

During a ceremony last week celebrating the centenary of the Communist Party of China, President Xi Jinping delivered an important and inspiring speech to people at home and abroad.
China, under the leadership of its Communist Party, has made remarkable achievements in the last 100 years.
China has become a truly independent country which is capable of resisting foreign influence. We insist on following our own path of development. It is clearly enshrined in the Chinese constitution that the Communist Party is the ruling party of China.
This is our own constitutional and political framework. We do not follow Western political systems, which do not suit circumstances of our own .
Imagine if we had done otherwise, China would never have been able to get rid of poverty or improve Chinese people’s livelihoods, let alone enhance our international status.
