Referring to the letter “How much value has open data created in Hong Kong?” (July 5), I agree with Dr Winnie Tang that the open data portal (data.gov.hk) should add more value to the development of a smart city in Hong Kong.
As I noted in my previous submission, city residents may find it difficult to keep track of the numerous Covid-19 vaccination lotteries and could benefit from a one-stop lucky draw portal facilitated by the iAM Smart app.
It would be helpful if the Office of the Licensing Authority of the Home Affairs Department could ask all lottery licensees to share machine-readable data via data.gov.hk on the lucky draws such as start and end dates, eligibility and prizes.

Third parties such as Jabbed.hk can then develop apps and websites to help residents join these promotional events.
Likewise, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department should share data on type C and type D catering premises under the vaccine bubble through the data portal and offer opportunities for more creative presentation of the information by third-party app developers.
Since the Airport Authority is the only statutory body offering a vaccination lucky draw, I urge the authority to more proactively leverage the data portal and IAM Smart app and set an example of how to operate a vaccination lottery in a smart way.
