Letters | Back up Hong Kong’s 21-day hotel quarantine rule with clear data
- Hong Kong officials should be transparent with the public about how many fully vaccinated persons who tested negative for Covid-19 on arrival ended up developing the coronavirus disease while in quarantine

Dear Dr Constance Chan JP, director of health,
May I inquire on a subject which, as a self-employed person, I have been struggling to comprehend?
Being a permanent Hong Kong resident, fully vaccinated and having tested negative for Covid-19 with standard recognised tests, we are still subject to hotel quarantine upon arrival from overseas, which comes at a considerable cost to us small and medium-sized business operators, putting heavy constraints on our ability to fully earn our livelihood.
In the interest of public health during a pandemic, preventive measures are certainly justified, but how can a hotel quarantine be a better, more safe and justifiable means of preventing community spread of Covid-19 compared to home quarantine, especially when we are fully vaccinated and test negative upon arrival?
