Letters | Latest MTR mishap a reminder to get safety back on track
- Readers discuss safety incidents at the MTR, the Hong Kong spirit, how an app to book Chinese medicine clinics can be improved, and the US democracy summit

In Hong Kong, the MTR is the most convenient public transport option given its wide network. Often, trains are quite crowded, seats are hard to come by and it is common for passengers to lean on doors. This latest incident shows that this might be risky and that people should avoid leaning on the carriage doors.
These are not the only safety incidents concerning the MTR that have been reported in recent years. In March 2019, two trains collided with each other at Central station during a trial run for a new signalling system, derailing a carriage and injuring a driver. In September that year, three carriages of an East Rail line train derailed, requiring the evacuation of 500 passengers.
If this goes on, passengers will lose trust in the safety and reliability of the MTR.
