My granddaughter in the Dominican Republic, my son in Colombia and many of my friends in England have, or have had, Covid-19. Are they or any of their family members or friends particularly concerned? It appears not.
In Hong Kong, we seem completely out of sync with most of the world. The 7.30pm TVB news throws the latest Covid-19 figures at viewers. The BBC news, which I generally watch during the preceding half-hour, makes no mention of Covid-19. Why? Because people in Britain have learnt to live with the disease, and catching it is hardly a big problem, especially for the triple-vaccinated.
The first is mask wearing. Do not make it obligatory to wear a mask outdoors. In the heat of summer, masks are not just uncomfortable but can increase the risk of heatstroke for some. In crowded places, such as the MTR, masks should be retained for now; but outside, not at all.
