With the borders with Shenzhen fully open, more Hongkongers have visited the mainland. Yet, visitors have been unable to enjoy the smooth experience they once did.

Due to the health declaration requirement and limited availability of QR code-scanning machines, long lines are often found at the Futian checkpoint. As all passengers must be X-rayed nowadays whereas those with small bags were previously exempt, the waiting time has also increased significantly at Shenzhen customs.

As a result of new crowd control measures, passengers returning to Hong Kong have to walk outside the building at Futian, which would be unpleasant in bad weather.

I urge the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau to work with the Guangdong government to review the necessity of health declarations and improve the visitor experience at Shenzhen checkpoints. I also hope lawmakers can speak up for Hong Kong residents while leveraging their strong ties with the mainland authorities.
