A television show host in Greece has apologised after making fun of the appearances of famous K-pop singers, including members of BTS, EXO and Wanna One.

“I want to apologise to everyone who felt insulted by our humorous comments on yesterday’s TV show and to the fans of Wanna One’s Daniel Kang, EXO’s Sehun, and BTS’ Taehyung and Jungkook,” Katerina Kainourgiou wrote on Instagram.

‘Butt-naked’ costumes and too much skin: when K-pop got too sexy

This statement came after Kainourgiou – host of the TV show Eutixeite – and her guests made fun of the stars on Friday as they talked about the people on the “100 Most Handsome Faces” of 2018 list published by TC Candler and The Independent Critics.

Kainourgiou and her guests made comments such as, “Is he a man?” and “I can’t believe there are women who voted for that thing to be No. 5 [on the list]”.

Their remarks enraged many of the Korean stars’ fans, who lashed out at Kainourgiou on social media.

“Kainourgiou is just an ignorant racist,” one person wrote online.

Another commenter said: “Judging people by outward appearances is itself unacceptable, but she made it worse by making a racist remark at the same time”.

Daniel Kang from Wanna One was also targeted.

Kainourgiou later asked fans to stop criticising her, saying she had received “terrible and threatening comments and messages”.
