
Forget the leather jacket. A tweed suit, silk pocket square and manicured moustache will be the uniform of choice when about 100 bikers gather in Hong Kong for the annual Distinguished Gentleman's Ride on September 28.
Thousands of riders around the world - from Thailand to Turkey to Taiwan - will ride in this year's charity event, in more than 245 rides in 56 countries, to raise funds for research into prostate cancer.
"We're really taking this year's event to a new level," says co-organiser of the Hong Kong ride David Jenkins, who will be riding his customised Kawasaki W650, nicknamed "the Black Mamba".
"Last year was a great spectacle - a great sight and a great sound. But with so many more riders signed up it's only going to be bigger and better this year," he says.
The only stipulation is that bikes are customised or classic models, Jenkins says.
"Cafe racers, bobbers, scooters and classic customs - we get them all. Last year there were custom SR500s, W650s, Harley-Davidson custom Sportsters, a 1973 Triumph Daytona, Honda CB750 vintage customs, Ducati Monsters and classic scooters.
