Asian photographers shortlisted for 2019 Sony World Photography Awards, including three Hongkongers

Three Hongkongers have been shortlisted in a global photography competition. Entries from Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India and Australia are also among those to have made the shortlist (see below).

The 2019 Sony World Photography Awards attracted more than 326,000 entries, the highest number to date.

The best of Sony World Photography Awards 2018 

In the Culture section, Hong Kong’s Ming Kai-chan, who took up photography as a hobby when he was a teenager, was shortlisted for his image, Drawing the Happiness.

It was taken in a remote village in China’s Hunan province. It shows a village woman drawing traditional symbols on a dried rice cake, hoping for a joyful and healthy coming year.
