The coronavirus has caused major disruptions to organisations globally, forcing many to use communication tools such as Zoom and Facebook Live.

Artists and entertainers have also embraced technology, some more successfully than others: just look at the Easter concert by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, who live-streamed his 25-minute “Music for Hope” performance from an empty cathedral in Milan, Italy. In the first 24 hours, the video racked up a record-shattering 28 million views globally and, at last look, it had over 36 million views.

It’s also important to support small local events and those Hongkongers adapting to a new environment however. Here’s some fun things to tune into for April.

1. Drawing strength

Teaching the ancient practice of mandalas using modern technology such as Zoom is the ideal fusion of old and new. Katie Flowers of art space Wild at Art HK, who this month will be “Zooming” her way into homes to give lessons, says designing mandalas (the Sanskrit word for circle) is both inspirational and therapeutic.

“Now more than ever these artistic tools are vital for helping us to quieten the ‘worry monster’ and develop a practice that we can tap into whenever we need to find a still space within ourselves,” she says.
