With a surge of new venues and a relentless calendar of openings, navigating Hong Kong’s 2026 art week requires strategy. Here is our carefully curated shortlist. On the main stage Art Basel Hong Kong Art Basel Hong Kong remains the anchor of the season, with 240 exhibitors taking part. This year, two sectors have been added: “Echoes”, showing works made in the last five years, and “Zero 10”, dedicated to digital art. Three influential Hong Kong-born women – curators Isabella Tam and Venus Lau, and artist Ellen Pau – are guest curators. Art Central This year’s Art Central, with more than 100 galleries, is curated by Enoch Cheng and Zoie Yung. Its “Central Stage” section features artists such as Iranian-American artist Elnaz Javani. M+ The highlights at M+ this week are South Korean artist Lee Bul’s travelling museum survey, “Lee Bul: From 1998 to Now”, and Pakistani-American artist Shahzia Sikander’s new Art Basel co-commission for the museum facade, titled “3 to 12 Nautical Miles”. Hong Kong Museum of Art “Live: Hong Kong Art Exhibition” has invited 19 local artists to show recent works and to make art on site, allowing visitors the rare chance to witness entire creative processes behind a range of media by artists including Chu Hing-wah, Angela Yuen, Inkgo Lam Ka-yu, Chan Wai-lap and anothermountainman. Tai Kwun Highlights of Tai Kwun Art Week 2026 include “Art After Hours: Beings in Motion”, featuring live performances and music, and the ongoing “Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe”, an exhibition that traces the stories behind China’s economic transformation since 2008. Grey matters Asia Art Archive The Asia Art Archive is marking its 25th anniversary by asking eight leading Asian artists what they were doing at age 25. “At 25: Artists’ Early Worlds, Part I” sees Singaporean Ho Tzu Nyen, Taiwanese painter Tehching Hsieh, Thai artist Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook and mainland China’s Zhang Xiaogang recreating pivotal moments from their past. Para Site Art space Para Site’s 30th anniversary exhibition, “Site-seeing”, revisits its inaugural 1996 show. Nine regional artists explore how urban space, memory and art-making have evolved within the complexity of today’s global cities. Hong Kong Arts Development Council The Hong Kong Arts Development Council’s own exhibition hall, Showcase, will feature site-specific installations by Phoebe Hui in an exhibition titled “The Lurking Void”. The artist has long embraced technological advancement in her practice. This time, she is employing artificial intelligence to create a space that straddles reality and fiction. Octone Foundation Established by investment company founder, art collector and educational philanthropist Hawk He, Octone Foundation is launching its first exhibition, “Ghostly, Godly”, in which a variety of artists represent the “ghostly and divine” presence in a city like Hong Kong. Its inaugural show, “Knot I: Soft Reality, Hard Dreams”, is co-presented with galleries The Drawing Room and HUA International, and curated by artist Jims Lam. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Knotting Space (@knottingspace.hk) Hong Kong speaks up Jaffa Lam Jaffa Lam Laam’s solo exhibition, “Asteroid J-734”, at Axel Vervoordt Gallery’s Hong Kong location shows a body of work that spans ceramic, fabric and metal. Referencing Le Petit Prince in the title, it is an extension of the celebrated artist’s exploration of material, community and storytelling. Chan Wai-lap “Jeremy’s Bathhouse”, Hong Kong artist Chan Wai-lap’s exhibition at Oil Street Art Space, is inspired by bathing cultures through time and across borders. The result is installations of colourful tiles and ceramic soap blocks that ponder purification, connection and the boundaries between public and private. Where and when: “Jeremy’s Bathhouse”, Oi! Florence Lee Yuk-ki and Tsui Hou-lam Hart Haus features two local female artists, Florence Lee Yuk-ki and Tsui Hou-lam, in two solo exhibitions. In “Double Blue: An Altered Fairy Tale of Hong Kong (I)”, Lee examines the sense of a place in the context of Hong Kong, while in “Trichiasis”, Tsui investigates fantasies as a subversive act. Jay Khan Sin Sin Fine Art gallery is playing host to bartender Jay Khan’s first photography showcase, “Pouring Shadow – Contrast & Balance”. A co-founder of Hong Kong bar Coa, Khan took up photography during the Covid pandemic. He likens the contrast and balance in his black-and-white photographs to the way he makes cocktails. Trevor Yeung and Lam Lap-see Blindspot Gallery spotlights two Hong Kong artists in separate shows. Solitude and introspection are Trevor Yeung’s themes in “Swallowing Rumination, Gracefully”, while Lam Lap-see reflects on mistranslations, orientalism and the experience of the Hong Kong diaspora in “Bamboo Palace, Revisited”. Dony Cheng and Hazel Wong Dony Cheng Hung, who has enthralled us with her forlorn, imaginary man-made landscapes, has unveiled “Time Objects”, a new body of work at Gallery Exit. Known for being an incubator of local art, the gallery is also showing “Receding Scenery” by Hazel Wong Mei-yin, an exhibition that captures the sense of looking into the past without feeling nostalgic. “Dony Cheng: Time Objects” and “Hazel Wong: Receding Scenery”, Gallery Exit, 25 Hing Wo Street, Aberdeen. Worldly discoveries Nicole Eisenman “Fallen Angels”, Nicole Eisenman’s first Asia solo exhibition, is at Hauser & Wirth gallery, where she presents 11 new paintings and three sculptures that focus on three sites of middle-class living: home, work and the beach. El Anatsui This month, Ghanaian artist El Anatsui will show a new body of work, “MivEvi”, at White Cube’s galleries in Hong Kong and Seoul. Francois-Xavier and Claude Lalanne Ben Brown Fine Arts is bringing the whimsical, nature-inspired sculptures by husband-and-wife duo Francois-Xavier and Claude Lalanne, who worked together under the name Les Lalanne. The display, titled “Les Lalanne: A Living Landscape”, will transform the Hong Kong gallery into an imagined Japanese Zen garden. Antenna Space Shanghai-based Antenna Space is opening a Hong Kong branch this week. Its inaugural group show, “Horizons: South”, features artists such as Xinyi Cheng and Mire Lee, and is curated by Robin Peckham. Marcos Kueh The Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile has commissioned a textile installation by Malaysian artist Marcos Kueh. “The Spirit of Labour: ZhiNu” pays tribute to the resilience of female textile workers through woven documentary photographs and blessing words. Joshua Serafin Filipino artist Joshua Serafin will present “Grieve the Departed Wound”, a solo exhibition at Eaton HK’s Tomorrow Maybe art gallery. The dance graduate from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts will also take part in “Ancestral Frequencies”, a party at Terrible Baby that is part of a month of celebration of queer and feminine voices at the hotel. Walk and see Late Night Southside Late Night Southside is the annual highlight in which galleries in Wong Chuk Hang and Tin Wan have extended opening hours. ArtHouse Tai Hang ArtHouse Tai Hang is a new festival/art fair featuring works by 50 artists across 10 buildings in the Hong Kong neighbourhood. Where and when: various locations, until March 25. HKwalls 2026 HKwalls’ annual street art festival will take over Central and Western district this year while Sino Group is partnering with the festival for “Lightwaves”, a series of original digital artworks that will show across the facades of Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre. Art.berdeen Art.berdeen is another multi-venue spotlight on an area. Founded by a team with a diverse background in art and design, music and F&B, the platform will feature creative efforts on Aberdeen Street and its surroundings. Design Trust Design Trust’s Marisa Yiu has curated “Design Trust Exhibition 2026: The Art of Movement”, a public architecture and art exhibition and walking tour that starts from the Central waterfront and finishes on The Peak. It will feature works by 30 artists and urban landmarks built from the 1980s to the present. Independent spirits Current Plans Experimental art space Current Plans has “Imagine a Dead Blue Whale Inside the Pocket of a Giant”, a group show of Italian and Hong Kong artists using “play” as a shared language and a massive party with global DJs and performers, including Paris-based Hen Yanni, Bangkok’s Tanat Teeradakorn and London-based Manuka Honey. Its inaugural exhibition, “Certainly”, is about the uncertainties in today’s world and features indigenous artists who are seldom shown in Hong Kong. N+ Museum N+ is a guerrilla operation that goes against massive institutions by showcasing emerging creatives who may not fit the art-world mould. Its exhibition “Hong Kong Nostalgia-Bait” invites 17 locally based artists to redefine Hong Kong, away from the neon signs and skyscrapers. Jacomax Pizzeria “Ve(ry)nice”, an anti-biennale exhibition of 15 Hong Kong artists at Italian restaurant Jacomax Pizzeria, questions European-centric ways of thinking through AI-generated works, moving image, print and installation. Noii Arthouse Hot Source is a new print magazine store concept, and its first pop-up shop, Fresh Spread, at artist-run space Noii Arthouse features vintage Hong Kong fashion magazines from artist-photographer Kary Kwok’s collection, as well as a conversation with artist duo Zoe Marden and Sonia Wong. Side Space Can an art fair booth be compressed into the standard cabin luggage’s dimensions? Check-in Side Space 2026, an event hosted by The Shophouse, forces galleries to present only what is necessary and challenges their curation. Exhibitors include photographer Wing Shya, artist Lousy and live art platform Per.Platform, all from Hong Kong. Fair play Collect Hong Kong Art Fair 2026 Presented by the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Collect Hong Kong Art Fair is a diverse showcase of jury-selected works by emerging local artists, ranging from paintings, sculptures and ceramics to installations, photography and video works. The venue will also host a series of talks about art collecting. Where and when: various galleries in Hong Kong Arts Centre, 2 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, until March 29. Visit hkac.org.hk. Pavilion Pavilion was founded by Hong Kong gallerists Willem Molesworth and Ysabelle Cheung as a slower, more intentional alternative to traditional art fairs. It launched in Taipei in January 2026. The homecoming first edition brings together 25 galleries, from Kyoto to New York, and takes place at H Queen’s. Where and when: H Queen’s, from March 23 to 28. Opening party on March 24. Visit itsapavilion.art. Central Yards Edible Art Fair Central Yards Edible Art Fair is the first immersive and interactive experience of its kind in Hong Kong. Opening on March 26, the guided one-way journey features 10 large-scale installations paying delicious homage to moments in art history. Sansiao Gallery Weekenders is a “tiny little art fair” of just eight exhibitors. Its compact “suitcase” scale is designed to facilitate direct and intimate interaction between artists and art enthusiasts at the Japanese Sansiao Gallery’s Hong Kong branch.
