Gaylia Kristensen offers a powerful but natural approach to anti-ageing

The Australian skincare brand is now available at Harvey Nichols

I was first introduced to Gaylia Kristensen a few years ago, when the Australian skincare expert was in Hong Kong as part of her collaboration with The Mandarin Spa. After enjoying one of the best facials I’ve ever had (thanks in large part to Kristensen’s signature lifting and toning massage), I was eager to learn more about her naturally derived anti-ageing products. Now that the collection is available at Harvey Nichols, I am not only a convert but a very satisfied customer.

“This is anti-ageing as you have never seen it before,” says Kristensen, who shuns the use of petrochemicals, mineral oil, parabens and toxic ingredients of any kind in favour of plant, vegetable and marine extracts. The cutting-edge molecular polypeptide and protein technologies work to hydrate, firm and smooth the skin while reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

The core of the pared-down collection is the three serums and two creams, which can be tailored to age group and skin concerns. The Eye Lift Intensive Serum (HK$1,560) is for all ages, to be used around the eyes and across the forehead. Those over 40 can add the Utopia Ultimate Anti-Ageing Serum (HK$2,000) for the cheek, chin and neck area, while dark spots and pigmentation can be tackled with the White Magic Anti-Ageing Brightening Serum (HK$2,360). Follow with the Dream Anti-Ageing Cream (HK$1,800) for ages 20 to 40 or the Deluxe Firming Cream (HK$2,040) for 40 and above, and you’re done. Kristensen advocates a simple skincare routine, and incorporates the latest technologies into her existing products rather than add any unnecessary steps.

If you find yourself wanting more, however, you can't go wrong with the Gentle Orange Blossom Cleanser (HK$440), Heaven Hydrating Facial Mist (HK$520) and Passion Ultimate Treatment Oil (HK$1,000). With Kristensen’s signature fragrance, inspired by Australian botanicals, and surprisingly light textures, using the products is like enjoying a daily spa treatment at home.

But you can be sure I will be signing up for Kristensen’s latest facial at The Mandarin Spa. Available from June 1 to August 31, the “Sparkle for Summer” treatment (HK$1,400 weekdays, HK$1,500 weekends) focuses on releasing tension around the eyes and lips. It also boasts hydrating and firming Collagen Infusion Eye and Lip Masks. For reservations, call (852) 2825 4888.
Gaylia Kristensen products are available for purchase at The Mandarin Spa, Harvey Nichols (Landmark, Pacific Place), Beauty Bazaar and The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Macau.
